THE SHADOW:  Elijah asked the people: "How long will you be limping upon two different opinions? If Jehovah is the true God, go following Him; but if ba'al is, go following him." The people did not answer. Elijah went on, "I myself have been left as a prophet of Jehovah, I alone". When under test, the prophets of ba'al began "calling upon the name of ba'al" and "cutting themselves... with daggers and with lances, until they caused blood to flow out upon them" in absolute deathly stubbornness.  (From 1 Kings 18:19-40).

THE REALITY:  Those tolerating the presence of ba'al worship in the spiritual "land" of God are not wholesouled in their worship of Jehovah as the One True God. Those with the Spirit of Elijah know that only by a glorious display of the power of God will people be persuaded not to trust in the fabrications of false prophets promoting the ba'al worship of "Ahab" men. By the power of the Spirit of God these self-appointed false prophets and their followers will be put to death. Only when people witness the power of God will they know He is the One True God. (18:38-40). The Spirit of Elijah says to "Ahab" 'elders' of the apostate sect falsely calling themselves Jehovah's Witnesses: "Go up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of the turmoil of a downpour." (18:41-46). What "Ahab" 'elders' must "eat and drink" are denunciations from God. The "downpour" itself will be the Spirit "hail" of the anger of God within the spirits of apostate "Ahab" men. (Isaiah 28:17-19). But until "the coming of the great and fear-inspiring day of Jehovah" and the coming "downpour", "Ahab" men will refuse to relinquish their authority among their ba'alist followers.  (Mal 4:5).

"The great and fear-inspiring day of Jehovah" will inspire fear in all men. It is an event we await with eager expectation, when "the Spirit of favour and entreaties" and bitter grief is poured out from God upon all people at the same time. (See Page 874 and Zech 12:10-14 NEB). Those who have already grieved over the death of the Firstborn Son of God our Lord Jesus Christ will not need to grieve over his death again, and will be left with "the Spirit of favour and entreaties". Without "green grass" of life-giving spiritual teachings from God, those guilty of ba'al worship will feel "dried out" in spirit, for their spirits have been corrupted by their sins. (Isaiah 29:7,8). They have "befouled" the Spirit "waters" of God by teaching and publishing their apostasy as though from the Word of God. (Ezek 34:17-19). To administer the denunciations of God upon its due recipients bears witness to us of our place before Almighty God.

IMPORTANT POINTS TO REMEMBER.

(1)

By His Spirit within them Jehovah will slaughter the prophets of ba'al.

(2)

To look for "green grass" Obadiah went "by another way" to that of Ahab.   (18:6).

(3)

When Obadiah said, "Is this you, my lord Elijah?" he was enquiring if the Spirit of God was with Elijah. For then the "green grass" of the Word of God was also with him.  (18:5,7).

(4)

The Obadiah class of persons only remain under "Ahab" authority until they come upon the Word of God by the Spirit of Elijah. They are a class of persons who do not promote the evil activities of "Jezebel" women.  ( 18:3,4.  Rev 2:20-24).

(5)

The true teachings of the Word of God by the "Little Scroll" expose the apostate teachings of the false prophets of ba'al and denounce them.  (Rev 10:8-11).
