"WOMEN RECEIVED BACK THEIR DEAD RAISED TO LIFE.
OTHERS WERE TORTURED TO DEATH, DISDAINING RELEASE,
TO WIN A BETTER RESURRECTION."  (Hebrews 11:35 NEB).

What is being described is of certain men of old who lived and died before the opportunity of the life-giving ransom sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ was made available to them. Women received back their dead bodies for burial, but the spirits of such ones were to be resurrected because of their proven and unwavering faith in the power of God.

The meaning being conveyed in Hebrews 11:35 is that these particular women received them back in a different way to those who prior to death were faithless. The unforgiven faithless, whether male or female, are dead in their sins forever, with no future life in view.  (Rev 21:8).

Before The Christ, those who had been under varying degrees of persecution and torture during their lives, and until death had not compromised their faith, rejected an early release in order to achieve a resurrection to heavenly life. They suffered for a "better resurrection", meaning one free from adverse Judgement and extinction. They gave an acceptable witness of the quality of their faith in God.

"O thou Eternal thy dead shall live again,
awakening from the dust
with songs of joy;
for Thy dew falls with light and life,
till dead spirits arise."
(Isaiah 26:19 Moffatt).

Although the last line above refers correctly to spirits arising (being resurrected) it would have been more correctly translated as:  "till the spirits of the dead arise".

It is not a dead body of flesh that is resurrected in a continuance of mortal life, but the spirit that is resurrected to incorruptible immortal heavenly life with Jehovah God through The Christ Michael     a "better resurrection."  (Heb 11:35 NEB).
