IN ISRAEL JEHOVAH'S DAY IS COMING THE PROPHECY: "Now as for the times and seasons, brothers, you need nothing to be written to you. For you yourselves know quite well that Jehovah's day is coming exactly as a thief in the night. Whenever it is that they are saying: "Peace and security!" then sudden destruction is to be instantly upon them just as the pang of distress upon a pregnant woman; and they will by no means escape." (1 Thess 5:1-3). How strange this prophecy may have seemed in the past, but not now that a season of "darkness" is falling upon the nations. (5:4,5). National leaders often make grandiose statements in the belief that their* political "wild beast" government will not only achieve peace and security in their own nation, but will also achieve it in others, such as between Palestinians and Israelis! But after saying such things, sudden destruction befalls them and their nation, with pangs of distress likened to that upon a pregnant woman just before giving birth, and with no escape. It raises an important question: Why does Almighty God permit such distress to occur? Does He want peace and security in Israel? The answer to the second question is: Yes, but not on their* terms. Many Jews support an isolationist policy, claiming a special relationship with God as the basis for segregating themselves from other nations. Having failed centuries ago to become a sanctified nation of priests, many Jews today worship the power of money. (Jer 31:31,32). They still reject the Messiah Jesus Christ as the Son of God. (1 John 2:22,23). Understandably then, whenever they are saying "Peace and security!" such people arouse the anger of Almighty God. To those Jews responsible for the vindictive ostracism, confinement, and enforced deprivation of their Palestinian neighbours, "Jehovah's day is coming exactly as a thief in the night". Their Godless behaviour testifies against them, and belies their claim that they are beloved people of God. (Isaiah 3:8-15 NEB). Until his assassination by a radical right-wing Orthodox Jew opposed to peace agreements with Palestinians, the Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin was proclaiming "Peace and security!" There cannot possibly be true peace or security in any nation without the true worship of God through The Christ Michael being practised by its people. For peace to be genuine and enduring, such a desirable estate requires that essential Godly qualities are sought and exercised among the people. "The fruitage of the spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, mildness, self-control. Against such things there is no law." (Gal 5:22,23). In 1 Thessalonians 5:4-7 the apostle Paul admonishes spiritual people of God who belong "neither to night nor to darkness" to remain spiritually awake and "not sleep on" (as defiant Jews do today living in spiritual "darkness" and overtaken by distress). We must be watchful of the "times and seasons" and the "pangs of distress" that will lead to the destruction of the political "wild beast" and its rulers on earth, and the need to comfort and caution people of God to keep their senses as these events unfold as the prelude to the "Jacob" age. (Rev 19:20. 1 Thess 5:11). The day is near when in desperation people will say: "You have a mantle. A dictator you ought to become to us, and this overthrown mass should be under your hand." (Isaiah 3:6).
