'Accumulating Wealth While the World Refuses to Die.' After reading Ms. Harrison's account of Charles Taze Russell's exploitation of the public over the 'miracle wheat' scandal, and comparing that to their lack of provision for their aged members, the above title for this chapter is certainly well chosen. 'An old man, who had been at Bethel for thirty years, grew senile. His senility took the form of his muttering obscenities at the dining room table. He was given two "warnings", which his hardened arteries obviously couldn't assimilate, and then ordered to leave. He had no resources, financial or emotional. He was last seen begging in downtown Brooklyn.' (Pg.80). After having laboured for them for thirty years, one would expect adequate provision to have been made for such ones (I mean, while they with their vast accumulated wealth from the labour of such ones waited for the world to die). I have heard not one report of a member of their governing body being left to beg on the streets when their mind and body had failed. So their article in a 1973 issue of the Awake! magazine entitled 'Twilight Years Can Be Useful Years' is the final insult to loyal but discarded members. As is news of the 'spanking-clean, beige-and-green Watchtower factories'. (Pg.80,81). Evil of this sort is what incurs the wrath of God. That is why, "by those stammering with their lips and by a different tongue He will speak to this people, those to whom He has said: "This is the resting place. Give rest to the weary one. And this is the place of ease," but who were not willing to hear."" (Isaiah 28:11,12). The "dungy idols" of the governing body of JWs allowed an old man who had served for thirty years to end up a homeless beggar. They did not "give rest" to this weary one, they abandoned him. 'A community leader expressed the majority sentiment: "While they're smiling and peddling sweet salvation, they're acting like godzilla, gobbling up property, evicting people as if we were squatters on land which will eventually belong to them anyhow... They don't mug anybody, they maintain their property well... but they don't pay taxes, and they don't contribute to communal life. How can you preach everlasting life and at the same time not care about people who have lived here all their lives? There are 1500 Witnesses living among us in their headquarters buildings, but they might as well be surrounded by a moat. It's as if we were living with a mediaeval commune in our midst"'. (Pg.85).
ADDRESSED TO THE SECT OF JWs:
"And I will make justice the measuring line
and righteousness the levelling instrument; and the hail must sweep away the
refuge of a lie, and the waters themselves will flood out the very place of
concealment. And your covenant with Death will certainly be dissolved, and
that vision of yours with She'ol will not stand.
The overflowing flash flood, when it passes through (Cont. on Page 9/8/89).
