WHO WAS THE "CONTEMPTIBLE
CREATURE" OF DANIEL'S VISION?
.

The "contemptible creature" of Daniel's prophecy must be understood in a two-fold way: Literal events in connection with Ayatollah Khomeini, and spiritual events within The Christ's congregation on earth during that same period.

"A CONTEMPTIBLE CREATURE WILL SUCCEED BUT
WILL NOT BE GIVEN RECOGNITION AS KING…"
(DANIEL 11:21 NEB).

(1)  THE "CONTEMPTIBLE CREATURE" who seized "the kingdom by dissimulation and intrigue in time of peace" was Ayatollah Khomeini of Iran. With fraudulent alliances and with few people behind him he rose to power and even roused "himself in all his strength" to "lead a great army against the king of the south"     against the demoncratic allies and supporters of Iraq, which led to the eight year Iran-Iraq war. (Daniel 11:21-25 NEB).

(2)  THE ONE WHO RETURNED "TO HIS OWN LAND" from exile with "anger in his heart against the Holy Covenant" was Ayatollah Khomeini, because his satanic will was in opposition to the Holy Covenant of God for a Kingdom of Spirit anointed priests and judges to rule the earth from heaven. (11:28 NEB) (Rev 5:9,10). But "ships from the west" were prophesied to sail against him for him to "receive a rebuff." While using Khomeini to "vent his fury against the Holy Covenant", satan took "due note of those who have forsaken it." (11:30 NEB). (See (3) below).

(3)  "THE ABOMINABLE THING THAT CAUSES DESOLATION" has been explained in great detail in Pages 849, 837, 838, 862 and 840 of the "Little Scroll". (11:31 NEB). The sect falsely calling themselves Jehovah's Witnesses still congregate in sports stadiums in like manner to their rebellious kind of the distant past, forsaking the Holy Covenant. (See Dan 11:30,31 NWT & 1 Maccabees 1:11-15 NEB).

(4)  "THIS KING TOO WILL MEET HIS END" was the Shah of Iran who was succeeded by the "contemptible creature" Ayatollah Khomeini, who consequently was not given international recognition as king. The Shah of Iran did "meet his end, yet neither openly nor in battle". He died of cancer while in the exile forced upon him by the "contemptible creature". (11:20 NEB). Much of Daniel's vision for the "time of the end", both in its literal and spiritual fulfilment has been realized. We are now waiting for:

(A)
The Christ Michael's deliverance of the "sons of your people". (12:1 NWT).

(B)
The coming "time of distress such as has never been since they became a nation". (12:1 NEB).

(C)
The formation of a heavenly administration of Spirit anointed brothers of The Christ "at the full limit of the appointed times" to bring all in heaven and on earth into a unity in Christ. (12:3 NEB) (Eph 1:10).

"He will establish himself in the fairest of all lands and it will come wholly into his power... 'He will be succeeded by one who will send out an officer with a royal escort to extort tribute; after a short time this king too will meet his end, yet neither openly nor in battle. 'A contemptible creature will succeed but will not be given recognition as king; yet he will seize the kingdom by dissimulation and intrigue in time of peace. He will sweep away all forces of opposition as he advances, and even the Prince of the Covenant* will be broken. He will enter into fraudulent alliances and, although the people behind him are but few, he will rise to power and establish himself in time of peace. He will overrun the richest districts of the province and succeed in doing what his fathers and forefathers failed to do, distributing spoil, booty, and property to his followers... Then one will return home with a long baggage train, and with anger in his heart against the Holy Covenant; he will work his will and return to his own land. 'At the appointed time he will once more overrun the south, but he will not succeed as he did before. Ships from the west will sail against him, and he will receive a rebuff. He will turn and vent his fury against the Holy Covenant; on his way back he will take due note of those who have forsaken it. Armed forces dispatched by him will desecrate the sanctuary and the citadel and do away with the regular offering. And there they will set up "the abominable thing that causes desolation". He will win over by plausible promises those who are ready to condemn the covenant, but the people who are faithful to their God will hold firm and fight back. Wise leaders # of the nation will give guidance to the common people; yet for a while they will fall victims to fire and sword, to captivity and pillage... Some of these leaders # will themselves fall victims for a time so that they may be tested, refined and made shining white... The king will do what he chooses; he will exalt and magnify himself above every god and against the God of gods he will utter monstrous blasphemies. All will go well for him until the time of wrath ends, for what is determined must be done. He will ignore his ancestral gods... but will exalt himself above them all. Instead he will honour the god of the citadel, a god unknown to his ancestors, with gold and silver, gems and costly gifts. He will garrison his strongest fortresses with aliens, the people of a foreign god. Those whom he favours he will load with honour, putting them in office over the common people and distributing land at a price. 'At the time of the end…the king of the north... will overrun land after land... amongst them the fairest of all lands, and tens of thousands shall fall victims. Yet all these lands [including Edom and Moab and the remnant of the Ammonites] will survive his attack... and Egypt will not escape. He will gain control of her hidden stores of gold and silver and of all her treasures; Libyans and Cushites will follow in his train. Then rumours from east and north will alarm him, and he will depart in a great rage to destroy and to exterminate many. He will pitch his royal pavilion between the sea and the holy hill, the fairest of all hills; and he will meet his end with no one to help him. At that moment Michael* shall appear… the great captain, who stands guard over your fellow-countrymen; and there will be a time of distress such as has never been since they became a nation till that moment. But at that moment your people will be delivered, every one whose is written in the book: many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth will wake, some to everlasting life and some to the reproach of eternal abhorrence. The  wise leaders # shall shine like the bright vault of heaven, and those who have guided the people in the true path shall be like the stars for ever and ever.'" (Dan 11:16 to 12:3 NEB).

THE "CONTEMPTIBLE CREATURE".
(Daniel 11:21 NEB).

Ayatollah Khomeini is the "contemptible creature" who came to power after the enforced exile and subsequent death of the former Shah of Iran, just as it is written: "...after a short time this king too will meet his end, yet neither openly nor in battle." (Dan 11:20 NEB). Having seized power "by dissimulation and intrigue in time of peace", this satanically inspired "contemptible creature" showed nothing but contempt for those who opposed him, sweeping away all forces of opposition as he advanced. Because his satanic will was in opposition to the Holy Covenant of God for a Kingdom of Spirit anointed priests and judges to rule the earth from heaven, the "Prince of the Covenant" The Christ Michael was effectively "broken" in Iran. (11:21,22 NEB). But although satan gained control of many nations, on pitching his "royal pavilion" between the "sea" of mankind and spiritual Mount Zion, he "will meet his end with no one to help him." (11:45 NEB).

THE ACTIVITIES OF THE "CONTEMPTIBLE CREATURE". (11:21,22 NEB).
Although at first the people behind him were but few, Ayatollah Khomeini gained prominence and was established by the power of satan. (11:23,24 NEB). Through this "contemptible creature" satan exalted and magnified himself above every god and object of men's worship, even uttering monstrous blasphemies against Almighty God Jehovah Himself. (11:36,37 NEB. Rev 13:5-7). Those whom satan favours he loads "with honour, putting them in office over the common people and distributing land at a price." (Dan 11:39 NEB). "He will overrun the richest districts of the province and succeed in doing what his fathers and forefathers failed to do, distributing spoil, booty, and property to his followers." (11:24 NEB).

"WHAT IS DETERMINED". (11:36 NEB).
What is determined must be done: The separation of the Godly from the unGodly. Although satan "vents his fury against the Holy Covenant", faithful Spirit anointed sons of God are the "wise leaders of the nation" who guide the beloved people of God in the path of righteousness. (11:30-33 NEB).

THE "ABOMINABLE THING". (11:32 NEB).
The "abominable thing that causes desolation" is the elaborate apostasy that was set  up by satan to disperse the power of holy anointed sons of God. (12:7 NEB). By October 1st 1972 the "abominable thing" had been fully implemented in JW congregations, and after 2,300 evenings and mornings had elapsed on January 19th 1979, the "contemptible creature" came to power. (8:13,14). The appointed "times" during which the "abominable thing" of unsealed JW 'elders' were appointed to remove faithful anointed "temple" sons of God from Christ's congregations also expired on January 19th 1979. (12:7-12 NEB). But without Spirit anointed channels of spiritual communications from God, apostate JW congregations are left spiritually desolate.

Those forsaking the Holy Covenant and those acting wickedly against it are apostates and will be spiritually awakened to know the full extent of their spirit rejection of God, and will experience the shameful reproach of being an eternal abhorrence before Him. (11:30-32 & 12:2 NEB).

THE "CONTEMPTIBLE CREATURE"
OF DANIEL 11:21 (NEB).

Mankind is sometimes likened to seas, boisterous at times, at other times calm. Demon angel princes have exercised evil influence at selected times in mankind's history to bring about changes for a specific purpose. With this in mind, let us read Daniel 10:13,14: "But the angel prince of the kingdom of Persia resisted me for twenty one days, and then, seeing that I had held out there, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me against the prince of the kingdom of Persia. And I have come to explain to you what will happen to your people in days to come; for this too is a vision for those days." (NEB). It is important to note that:

(1)
There are both physical and spiritual fulfilments of the prophecy of Daniel Ch.11 & 12 taking place in the "time of the end". (11:21,22 & 40 NEB).

(2)
Heavenly angels of God have been in conflict with demon angel princes, including those of Persia (10:13 NEB) and Greece. (10:20 to 11:1 NEB).

(3) The "contemptible creature" is Ayatollah Khomeini. (11:21 NEB).

(4)
The "disgusting thing" (NWT) also called the "appalling abomination" (Moffatt) and the "abominable thing" (NEB) is a spirit rebellion by apostates within Christ's congregations that usurped the authority of Spirit anointed brothers of The Christ Michael and appropriated their congregational responsibilities. (11:31). (See Page 29/12/96B of The Signal).

AT THE "TIME OF THE END".
Besides having contempt for the Shah of Iran, the demon angel prince of Persia has proved contemptuous of God and The Christ Michael the Prince of the Covenant. (11:22 NEB). This demonic angel prince inspired the "contemptible creature" Ayatollah Khomeini. Though not given recognition as king, Khomeini came to power through a populist revolt against the Persian monarchy, seizing that kingdom by dissimulation and intrigue in time of peace. (11:21 NEB). Khomeini's seizure of the kingdom took place when millions of Iranians subjected themselves to his demonically inspired will, and on January 19th 1979 demonstrated against the Shah Pahlavi of Iran. (See: 'The Fall of the Shah: The End of an Era' by Fereydoun Hoveyda).

January 19th 1979 was also the end of the 2,300 evenings and mornings of Daniel 8:13,14. But "when the power of the holy people ceases to be dispersed, all these things shall come to an end." (12:7 NEB). The evil influence of the demon angel prince over Persians (Iranians) has certainly been effective, and has revealed their demonic spirit aspect in the "time of the end" of this system of things. Khomeini was a "warrior king" without kingly recognition, and at war with other nations. (11:25 NEB).

Although the prophecy describing the activities of the "king of the North" and "king of the South" was given to Daniel, it was put on record so that we would know "what will happen to your people in days to come; for this too is a vision for those days" (our days). (10:14 NEB).

THE "WARRIOR KING" OF DANIEL 11:3 NEB.

(1)

"All will go well for him until the time of wrath ends". (11:36 NEB).

(2)

"And he will certainly prove successful until the
denunciation will have come to a finish". (NWT).

(3)

"…he shall prosper till the wrath Divine has run its course". (Moffatt).

KHOMEINI DIES.
Although a demonic instrument of contempt against the Prince of the Covenant of God, Ayatollah Khomeini was made weak and his kingdom "shattered" by war. "It will not pass to his descendants, nor will any of his successors have an empire like his". (11:4 NEB). Under the demon angel prince of Persia, his legacy was the Islamic revolution     until Michael stands up in authority. (12:1).

"THIS KING TOO WILL MEET HIS END".

"He will… send out an officer with a royal escort to extort tribute".
(Daniel 11:20 NEB).

A dissident group alleged that, 'the (Shah) Pahlavi Foundation and the royal family had shares in most country's businesses'. It had 'sizeable interests in 17 banks and insurance companies, 25 metallurgical plants, 8 mining companies, 10 building materials factories, 45 construction companies, and so on.' ('The Fall of the Shah' by F. Hoveyda).

"Those whom he favours he will load with honour, putting them in office over the common people and distributing land at a price." (Dan 11:39 NEB). In 1950, the Shah gave away his lands     peasants became owners. They kissed his feet in genuflection (their ritual when receiving gifts of land). This was part of his 'twelve points of the white revolution     they were six at the beginning and gradually added to'. He gave away 1¼ million acres. The "price" was that they should consider him absolute monarch. ('The Imperial Shah' by G. de Villiers).

After the 2,300 evenings and mornings of Daniel 8:13,14 were concluded on January 19th 1979, a further 3½ years elapsed before the "appointed times" were completed on July 2nd 1982. (Rev 11:11). According to Daniel's prophecy, satan gains control of the treasures of Egypt through the demonic activities of the "king of the North", with Libyans and Ethiopians following in his train. He pitches his royal pavilion of authority between "the sea" (mankind) and "the holy hill" (spiritual Mount Zion) where he "will meet his end with no one to help him." (Dan 11:45 NEB). Now that the integral periods that make up the "appointed times" of the prophecy of Daniel have been fulfilled, these last events are before "that moment" when "Michael shall appear". (12:1 NEB. See Eph 1:10).

"He ⁽¹⁾ will resolve to subjugate all the dominions of the king of the South; and he will come to fair terms with him, and he ⁽²⁾ will give him a young woman in marriage, for the destruction of the kingdom; but she will not persist nor serve his purpose." (11:17 NEB).

He ⁽¹⁾:  The Shah resolved to overthrow the multi-party democratic system of government advocated by the "king of the South" so that he could rule via an autocratic one-party State.

he ⁽²⁾:  King Farouk gave his sister Fawzia in marriage to the Crown Prince (later the Shah) of Iran in 1938. However, she did not serve his purpose and they divorced. 'Fawzia did leave Iran in the spring of 1945 on the pretext of visiting her family in Egypt. She never came back, and some time later a court communiqué announced their divorce.' ('The Fall of the Shah').

"TO EXHORT TRIBUTE". (Dan 11:20 NEB).
According to the book, 'The Fall of the Shah', there was a 'quadrupling of the price of oil.' (Pg.36). 'Middle-men proliferated, extorting huge sums by putting foreigners in touch with the higher officials in charge of executing the Shah's ambitious programmes. Various European ex‑royals secured some stupendous contracts for European manufacturers thanks to their entrée at court. Prosperity came on the scene, with its following of injustice, inequality and corruption.' (Pg.56). His 'grandiose projects and arms purchases rapidly absorbed the increase in oil revenues     He was already considering a further boost in the price of oil to make up for the shortfall in earnings resulting from the drop in exports.' In October 1976 during an interview the Shah said: '(Till now) we have not asked the people for sacrifices.' (Pg.57). But "After a short time this king too will meet his end, yet neither openly nor in battle." (11:20 NEB). The Shah died of cancer while in exile in July 1980.
