.
THE Apostate Preacher.
A preacher while visiting one who was ill,
Did to a son of God boastfully convey,
His delight in gaining confidences and then,
"Stick the knife in
and turn it" the traitor's way.
In the likeness of the one who dipped
his morsel into The Christ's last bowl,
Then slyly left to betray the Lord,
And so betrayed his very own soul. (1)
What enters the mouth is not what defiles,
But the evil spoken by the men it betrays, (2)
Apostates reveal their contempt for God,
And blaspheme Him and His Holy Way. (3)
By holy examples is one's morality shown,
Not as dead flies in ointment that spoils,
Hurtful desires drawn out give birth to sin,
And apostasy exposed as self-destructive toil.
