SACRIFICES.

"Therefore, my brothers, I implore you by God's mercy to offer your very selves to Him: a  living  sacrifice, dedicated and fit for His acceptance, the worship offered by mind and heart. Adapt yourselves no longer to the pattern of this present world, but let your  minds be remade and your whole nature thus transformed. Then you will be able to discern the Will of God, and to know what is good, acceptable, and perfect."  (Rom 12:1,2 NEB).

GOD ONLY APPROVES OF SPIRITUAL SACRIFICES.
"Through Jesus, then, let us continually offer up to God the sacrifice of praise, that is, the tribute of lips which acknowledge His Name, and never forget to show kindness and to share  what you have with others;  for such are the sacrifices which God approves."  (Heb 13:15,16 NEB).

'Thus the true sacrifice (1) is offered in every act which is designed to unite us to God in a holy fellowship, every act, that is, which is directed to that final Good which makes possible our true felicity. (2)  For that reason even an act of compassion itself is not a sacrifice, if it is not done for the sake of God.'  (Augustine).

"But the souls of the just are in God's hand, and torment shall not touch them... for though in the sight of men they may be punished, they have a sure hope of immortality; and after a little chastisement they will receive great blessings, because God has tested them and found them worthy to be His. Like gold in a crucible He put them to the proof, and found them acceptable like an offering burnt whole upon the altar."  (From Wisdom of Solomon 3:1-6 NEB).
