.

MODESTY.

"He has told you, O earthling man, what is good. And what is Jehovah asking back from you but to exercise justice and to love kindness and to be modest (1) in walking with your God?"  (Micah 6:8).

"Keep in harmony with one another; instead of being ambitious, associate with humble folk;  never be self-conceited." (2)  (Rom 12:16 Moffatt).

'A fool boasts about his nature, a modest person lets his nature speak for him.'  (R. Thomas).

"Let others praise you, not yourself: not your own lips, but someone else."  (Prov 27:2 Moffatt).

"Better be modest among poor folk than divide plunder with the proud."  (Prov 16:19 Moffatt).

"It is better to be modest and earn one's living than to be conceited and go hungry."  (Prov 12:9 NEB).

"My son, in all modesty, keep your self-respect and value yourself at your true worth.  Who will speak up for a man who is his own enemy, or respect one who disparages himself?"  (Eccus 10:28,29 NEB).

"Watch your chance and defend yourself against wrong, and do not be over-modest in your own cause; for there is a modesty that leads to sin, as well as a modesty that brings honour and favour."  (Eccus 4:20,21 NEB).
