JOB AND HIS COMPANIONS.

As the very name of the God-fearing man Job implies, during a certain period of his life he was: An object of hostility.  Initially, the three men who came to console him were shocked and beside themselves with grief over what was happening to him. Nevertheless, they later proved hostile in their denunciation of him, and spoke in error against God. (1)  All this after Job had lost his family, his property, (2) and was suffering the extreme pain of malignant sores from head to foot. (3)

The principle to be learned from the record of Job's sufferings, is that whatever test or loss we may suffer during our service to God, He will restore our happiness. (4)

Job proved to the heavenly host and to Christians today that it is possible to remain faithful to God even when satan through his evil design drives us into a low tormented condition and we are made to feel as though unprotected by God. Everything that had been taken from him was restored to Job, including his health. (5) The testing of Job was an extreme case. Despite having been greatly respected and wealthy, he did not curse God for the loss of his family or for his painful sufferings.

"Awake! be on the alert! Your enemy the devil, like a roaring lion, prowls round looking for someone to devour. Stand up to him, firm in faith, and remember that your brother Christians are going through the same kinds of suffering while they are in the world. And the God of all grace, who called you into his eternal glory in Christ, will Himself, after your brief suffering, restore, establish, and strengthen you on a firm foundation. He holds dominion for ever and ever. Amen."  (1 Peter 5:8-11 NEB).
