THE  ADORNMENTS  FOR  WOMEN
PROFESSING TO REVERENCE GOD.

THE APPAREL FOR HOLY WOMEN.
The apostle Paul expressed the Lord's instruction when he said: "Women again must dress in becoming manner, modestly and soberly, not with elaborate hair-styles, not decked out with gold and pearls, or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, as befits women who claim to be religious."  (1 Tim 2:9,10 NEB).

"Likewise I desire the women to adorn themselves in well-arranged dress, with modesty and soundness of mind, not with styles of hair braiding and gold or pearls or very expensive garb, but in the way that befits women professing to reverence God, namely, through good works."  (1 Tim 2:9,10 NWT).

As outward adornment such as elaborate hair-styles, gold and pearls and expensive garb are as corrupting to the wearer as they are to those envious of a showy display of wealth, how much more so if a woman wears garments specifically designed to reveal those parts of her body that entice and stimulate male sexual appetite?  I refer of course to garments that are figure-hugging and designed to emphasize a woman's sexual parts.

The apostle Peter said: "Let not yours be the outward adorning with braiding of hair, decoration of gold, and wearing of robes, but let it be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable jewel of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious."  (1 Peter 3:3,4 RSV).

"Your beauty should reside, not in outward adornment     the braiding of the hair, or jewellery, or dress     but  in the inmost centre of your being, with its imperishable ornament, a gentle, quiet spirit, which is of high value in the sight of God."  (1 Peter 3:3,4 NEB).

The beauty of a woman "professing to reverence God" is in the "imperishable jewel" of her "gentle and quiet spirit". Her dress should therefore be "well-arranged" and of a "becoming manner", showing "modesty and soundness of mind".  It is important to note that our Lord is not deceived by a woman who chooses to wear modest garments but wears them immodestly so that they fit too tightly, or are too scant to be modest.

While in cold climates it may be necessary for a woman to wear some kind of trousers to keep warm, and in some activities preferable for a woman to wear trousers, such as for cycling, exercises, etc, garments that are too tight and/or too short in length require no further explanation as to what is deemed immodest. Modesty applies to married and unmarried persons, both male and female. Christians should not concern themselves with the fashions of this world, for it is written:

"Do not set your hearts on the Godless world or anything in it. Anyone who loves the world is a stranger to the Father's love. Everything the world affords, all that panders to the appetites or entices the eyes, all the glamour of its life, springs not from the Father but from the Godless world. And that world is passing away with all its allurements, but he who does God's Will stands for evermore."  (1 John 2:15  17 NEB).
