PROPHECY VANISHES ONLY WHEN THE Only men who declare what they receive from the mind of God by Divine inspiration can accurately foretell future events and consequently PROPHESY. At the present time, and with reference to scriptural PROPHECIES of God, only those expounding the Scriptures according to an anointing by Holy Spirit from God may actually PROPHESY. "Love will never come to an end. Are there prophets? their work will be over. Are there tongues of ecstasy? they will cease. Is there knowledge? it will vanish away; for our knowledge and our prophecy alike are partial, and the partial vanishes when wholeness comes." (1 Cor 13:8-10 NEB). This scripture teaches that when the Divinely inspired Word of God is fulfilled, knowledge leading to its fulfilment vanishes away. For when such prophecies are fulfilled (when they come to be) we have no need of the integral details of the partial knowledge that led to their fulfilment ("when wholeness comes"). For example, concerning the prophecy of Daniel to which Matthew made reference, that the "disgusting thing" that would stand "in a holy place": There are many details written concerning this event, but now that it has been fulfilled (taken place), the "wholeness" or reality of it has come. (Matt 24:15) (Dan 11:30,31. 2 Thess 2:1-12). Consequently, only a Divinely inspired account of its fulfilment may now be taught to those ignorant of this prophecy.
AFTER THE REALITIES, THREE THINGS REMAIN. The apostle Paul and the other apostles prophesied. To correctly expound scriptural prophecies of God to be fulfilled is, in effect, to prophesy in relation to those Divine prophecies. The Holy Scriptures in no way teach that the gift of prophecy, expounding the Word of God, has ceased. The visions and prophecies described in Daniel 9:24 (NEB) as "sealed" by The Christ does not signify that prophesying concerning them ceased after his earthly death. This is borne out by what Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 12:1-31.
