THE LORD SAYS: "I WILL PUNISH
BEL IN BABYLON". (Jer 51:44 NEB).

It is the Lord's answer to the question: 'What has happened to the military might of Babylon/Iraq now at war with coalition forces?'  The answer is in the following scripture:

"For marauders march on Babylon herself, her warriors are captured and their bows are broken; for the LORD, a God of retribution, will repay in full. I will make her princes and her wise men drunk, her viceroys and governors and warriors, and they shall sink into unending sleep, never to wake. This is the very word of the King, whose Name is the LORD of Hosts." (51:56,57 NEB). Almighty God has caused the governors and warriors of Iraq to reel as to decision as though drunk. But what of their god Bel, the chief demon satan inspiring Babylon/Iraq's confusion?  This: "I will punish Bel in Babylon and make him bring up what he has swallowed;  nations shall never again come streaming to him."  (51:44 NEB).

Because Saddam Hussein and his viceroys, governors and warriors were drunk with power, they and their god Bel betrayed a lack of wisdom and foresight when they "swallowed" up Kuwait by force of arms. He appealed to Islamic nations to "rise up" and join Iraq in the war against coalition forces and realize their ambition to "possess the world" and "cover the face of the earth with cities". (Isaiah 14:21,22 NEB). He invaded Kuwait that he might control the  world's oil supply and hold the world to ransom, but found no allies. As for the "princes", "wise men", "viceroys and governors and warriors" of Babylon/Iraq, "they shall sink into unending sleep, never to wake" (death without resurrection).

STRANGERS OF BEL IN THE SACRED COURTS OF THE LORD'S HOUSE.
No longer will people of the nations submit to the worship of Bel the chief demon satan through his human agents. These agents of Bel are "strangers" who have "entered the sacred courts of the Lord's House" and stand in authority there. (51:51 NEB.  Rev 11:2). They do not receive Spirit communications from God, and have shown their allegiance to satan by warring against faithful anointed sons of God who do. (Matt 24:15)  (Dan 11:30-32). They have also shown contempt for the Holy Word of God by changing the intended meaning of the "times and Law" of God contained therein.  (Dan 7:25).

Note:

In the book of Daniel, the unnamed person referred to as "he" is the satanic authority of the chief demon Bel being exercised among his worshippers.  (Dan 11:30-32).
